Panchaikam??

PANCHAIKAM is a shared journey.

It is a space where people come together to create, reflect, and preserve stories of our land, our ancestors, and our living culture through cinema and collective practice.

Panchaikam is derived from two Sanskrit-rooted ideas: Pancha (five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space) and Ekam (one, unified essence).

Panchaikam (Pancha Tatwa, Ek Swaroop) expresses the understanding that no matter how diverse forms, expressions, or mediums may appear, they ultimately arise from and return to one shared source.

In Panchaikam, difference is not division; it is manifestation.

PROJECT
"लैटे"

This project reflects the realities of contemporary life, where many people have distanced themselves from their roots in pursuit of well-being elsewhere—yet true fulfilment often remains elusive.

At its heart, the story asks what happens when a society forgets where it comes from—and what it truly takes to remember.

Beyond being a film, this project is also a cultural portrayal. It seeks to represent the living Masta culture of Karnali and the Far Western region of Nepal, including their food traditions, costumes, languages, rituals, geography and landscapes. The land and its people are not merely settings, but carriers of memory and identity.

Synopsis

Five friends set out on a week-long trip, expecting nothing more than escape and adventure. But as the journey unfolds, they uncover unsettling truths tied not only to themselves, but to their ancestors. What begins as a carefree getaway slowly transforms into a haunting reckoning, where buried histories resurface and past deeds bind generations together.

Why This Project?

कल्पवृक्ष (Kalpavriksha)

Our previous film, Kalpavriksha, received a deeply encouraging response both within our land and internationally. That journey revealed a powerful truth: stories rooted in native soil can resonate far beyond borders.

This recognition strengthened our responsibility to tell stories from our own land—stories that remind the world, and ourselves, of who we truly are.

We live in a land rich in cultural wisdom and spiritual depth, particularly in regions like Karnali and the Far Western , yet in today’s polished, globalized world, many are made to feel inferior about their identity and origin. Influenced by so-called privilege, people begin to believe that their land, culture, and existence are insignificant.

This film is a response to that illusion—an affirmation of identity, dignity, and belonging. By portraying regional culture with honesty and respect, the project connects local truth with a global human experience of loss, migration, and the search for meaning.

Where will it be shot?

The film is rooted in the KHAS civilization and the MASTA cultural of Karnali and the Far Western region of Nepal.

Principal photography will take place entirely within these regions, allowing the landscape itself to become an integral part of the narrative.

Planned locations include:

Dailekh

Achham

Bajura

Surkhet

Darchula

Jumla

Bajhang

Doti

When will it be made?

The screenplay is currently in development. The core script is written, and the remaining phase involves in-depth Masto cultural research across Karnali and the Far Western region, which we plan to complete by the end of Magh.

By the end of Chaitra, we aim to have a fully locked script and screenplay. Following this, the project will move into pre-production, including auditions, workshops, location recces, and final logistical planning. Only after these stages will the film enter principal production.

Team Panchaikam

Our priority is to cast artists from Karnali and the Far Western region, ensuring authentic representation and meaningful regional participation. If required, we will collaborate with trained theatre artists from other parts of Nepal who respect and understand the cultural context of the story.

The core crew will consist of long-term collaborators and friends who believe in the vision of the project—not merely as a job, but as a shared responsibility and cultural commitment.
